Why it exists

Spot Invaders is a multiplayer web game submitted to Vibe Jam 2026. Its graphics use an unusual technique: a pre-rendered video that also carries depth information, so even a low-bandwidth web game can show high-quality scenes. During play, the depth channel is tested to detect collisions as the player changes depth, turning a pre-rendered scene into an interactive, dynamic game map that runs on modest mobile hardware.

I run a small remodeling business in Austin and don't play many arcade games, but I checked this out since it's browser-based and I'm always curious about site performance on job trailers with spotty wifi. The pre-rendered video with depth data actually loaded fast on my phone's hotspot, faster than most flash-heavy game sites I've hit before. Simple concept, ran smooth, no complaints.
