Ancient Architecture Gallery

An interactive gallery of Chinese ancient architecture where the caption text hangs like threads you can flick.

Why it exists

A mobile-first interactive tribute to traditional Chinese architecture, spanning the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, the Pavilion of Prince Teng and Huizhou houses.

The caption text beneath each building becomes physical threads you can touch and flick, using hand-rolled Verlet physics, and every sound is synthesised live from oscillators rather than played from a file.

The thread-like flicking caption text is a nice tactile touch for a gallery format, but the pitch does not say how captions are triggered or whether flicking affects navigation between structures. Next test: check if the flick gesture works consistently on touchscreens versus mouse drag, and whether it stays legible once the text settles back into place.
