Why it exists

Grid Soccer plays football as a board game: a 9 by 18 pitch, formation cards, RPG-style player stats, and two dice rolled for every contested pass, tackle and shot.

It installs as an offline app, plays against the computer, a friend on the same device, or as a CPU-versus-CPU spectator match, and it converts cleanly to pencil and paper.

Tried this on my phone during lunch in midtown and the draft screen took a couple tries to get comfortable with on a smaller display, buttons felt cramped. Once I got into a match though, rolling 2d6 for passes actually made the turn-based flow satisfying instead of tedious. Formation picking is straightforward. Wish the pitch grid rendered a bit bigger on my screen, but playable.
